Today we’re going to look at some simple bass practice you can employ for working on almost all areas of your bass playing and musicianship.
We’re going to work on learning the notes of the fretboard, your harmony knowledge, arpeggios, scales and pretty much EVERYTHING.
We’re going to do this in a very relaxed and simple way by improvising bass lines on a jazz ballad from a basic chord sheet. For this lesson we’ll use one of the most popular jazz songs of all time: Misty by Erroll Garner.
Very helpful and useful lesson ! Well explained and fun to follow along ! But not for the complete beginner ! You’ll need to have some basics in terms of technique , finger strength , etc.
Very insightful and enjoyable lesson, will help me really dial in on navigation. Fun too…
Thank you!
What a Fantastic Lesson! Thank you so much.
Mark, at 34:32 it is writed BbMaj7 instead of Bb7.
Thanks for this amazing lesson.
Always appreciate these comprehensive lessons Mark. I’m aware that these type of lessons are less likely to get “likes” on YouTube but on behalf of all of us that are trying to seriously improve our playing -Thank you !
a very…very useful exercise as someone who is just getting back into playing , i never really took the time to learn bass properly, now i”m retired getting into it and learning from scratch the proper way…..i just used to work out a line ..or copy a line and that was that, .another useful trick i found by accident when going over arpeggios was to use the first and second inversions to help you go up and down the neck. .the American anthem , by accident is almost entirely made up of a c natural arpeggio (C.E.G ) with the inversions. ..maybe you could make up a short lesson on this little trick to help beginners. Thanks again mark .
Great lesson
Mark: These are the lessens that set you apart from the pack. Very helpful for my level.
The backing track plays through to 2:11. No problem. But where does it go from there? Not back to the head, certainly.
Awesome lesson and great tunes!!!
Love the practice track. Thank you!
