This is a simple scalar exercise designed to help you navigate around the fretboard, develop you position shifting and many other aspects of bass technique. The exercise is taken from the upcoming Bass Technique Builder course from Talkingbass.
Technique Building With Short Exercises
So we’re finally finishing up 2021 and moving into 2022 and this week I’m going to give you a quick glimpse at something I’ve been quietly working on which will be due for release in the next few months.
Yes it’s a new course and one that’ll be dedicated to bass technique and improvement of what pretty much amounts to your physical chops. Today I’ll give you an example exercise from the course and some tips on using it in developing your facility on the instrument.
Scalar Exercise
This is a simple scalar exercise designed to help you navigate around the fretboard a little and develop your position shifting. The example is in C major but the exercise should be played in all keys.
That was fun. Looking forward to this new course. Happy New Year!
Wow Mark, this was great! I am fairly new to your channel but it has been incredibly helpful. I tried learning to play bass in highschool but never learned good technique or music theory or anything really proper and I gave up after a few years. Getting back into it now and I feel like I’ve learned more in a month through your videos than I learned in 3 years before! Thank you!
This is one of the most helpful videos to create a daily exercise routine. I have struggled for awhile trying to move away from one/two positions and this is going to help a lot. I am new to Talkingbass and scratching my head why I did not find this before. Thanks for remembering and keeping prospective of those playing for awhile but still stocked /needing help to move forward – which is missing from many courses. I find the videos to be a super tool. Look forward to the new course and more. Keep it up.
Nice
Thanks Mark. Your little tips and tricks like this one are always appreciated. Simple exercises that always seem to benefit my skills-growth. You’re a stand-out to many online teachers, and I’m looking forward to this new course of yours.
