In this lesson I’ll be showing you the PERFECT bass riff to get you started playing bass as a complete beginner. This bass riff is great for working on loads of the basics such as crossing strings, finger strength (especially in that pinky) and just general riff playing.
Even if you’re not a complete beginner to bass guitar playing, you’ll be able to get something from the lesson as I breakdown certain aspects of technique in the second half of the lesson.
The Perfect Beginner Bass Riff
Playing Tips:
- Use fretting hand index and pinky (fingers 1 and 4)
- Use alternate picking in the order: middle – index – middle – index
You are a great teacher. Thank you
Thank you so much for this! You explain everything so clearly, like it was a live lesson! ☺️
Straight up thanks Mark. I’ve been playing right handed guitar for many years. However, being a natural lefty I have been set a challenge by a well meaning friend who plays in Vegs to learn to play left handed, and loving the groove have chosen the bass. So finding your material is very timely. Being an educator, I would like others to know and realize that what you’ve delivered is well though out and presented. Great job mate. Thanks again.
You are awesome. Thanks. You make playing look easy.
You have the best delivery and voicing on YouTube. Expert knowledge. I played brass instruments for years and now have an interest in bass and lap steel guitar. Also assistant professor for 25 years so I don’t give teaching praise lightly. Yours is superior!
Love your lessons. I have a question about the A# as played in the simple bass riff does this follow some standard rule for a bass riff . It doesn’t really fit in the standard C scale. Anyway I could be talking nonsense 😏
