This week we’re looking at a short and simple bass riff that should help with getting your ring and pinky fingers moving. The weak pinky finger seems to be a universal problem for beginner to intermediate players.

Excellent just what i needed to improve my fingering, thank you
What a great exercise, Mark! Not only am I plagued by a weak pinky, I’ve had troubles with alternate picking in the right hand. This exercise is MUCH more useful than trying to improve both by playing scales, AND it’s musically interesting as well!
That’s the best pinky exercise I’ve come across so far, it sounds really good, thank you! It sounds like Bach, is it?
This is fantastic, such a nice melody for a finger exercise!
Certainly works the tendons on the back of my hand too. Nice sounding exercise.
Brilliant exercise!!! Ought to have payed attention to Mark though, when he said not to overdo it. Unfortunately I did, which is why I am writing this at my loca A & E….. Just messing, lol, Terrific workout.
I just realized about a week ago (after playing bass for 7 or 8 years) that my pinky was pretty much out of the program. I upgraded my bass a few weeks back and decided I also have to upgrade my skill/ability. This “pinky” issue was the first thing I thought I should address, and then today I stumbled across “Talkingbass”. Its perfect. I will be a regular on this site.
yes great exercise! thank you! really beautiful!
