Leland Sklar has been a super sideman to the stars for over 50 years now and has played with literally everyone.  This week we’re looking at his killer chops and time via the Phil Collins song: Sussudio.

Sussudio

Sussudio was originally a synth line but Leland Sklar learned it and plays it in the live concerts to add a more organic feel to proceedings.

This is a great example of how learning synth bass lines can push your playing because they’re not written with the instrument in mind. They tend to be very odd and awkward and Sussudio can be really tough to keep up because of the speed and syncopated 16th note rhythms.
