Today we’re looking at an awesome slap riff you can practice for developing your basic slap/pop technique, chordal pops, cross hammer technique and flamenco rolls.
It’s chock full of techniques but very accessible for those of you that have only been slapping for a little while. Enjoy!!!
Full Riff
In this riff, which comes from the Simple Steps To Slap Bass Course, consists of basic slap and pop, popped chords, flamenco rolls and cross hammers.
The First Bar
We begin with a basic slap on the open E string followed by a popped chord, which is an E7 chord, popped using your two picking fingers.
This is then followed by a flamenco roll and this move takes some get used too! Be sure you have good positioning and basic slap technique before attempting this particular movement.
The Second Bar
This bar starts out almost the same as the first, but instead of the popped chord and flamenco roll we have a cross hammer line.
It’s called a cross hammer as we are hammering on from a different string, as apposed to the usual method of hammering down on a note on the same string.
Putting It All Together
As always with a complex riff like this, take it very very slowly and don’t try practicing along to a metronome or drum track until you have got it all comfortably under your fingers.
