This is the first lesson in a short 3 part series dedicated to Tapping for Bass Guitar. The series is broken into three parts of linear tapping, piano style tapping and contrapuntal style.
This lesson deals with tapping in the stereotypical Eddie Van Halen or Billy sheehan style. I work through the basics of the technique starting with hammer-ons and pull-offs and then move onto hammering with the picking hand.
The exercises work through basic triad arpeggios then move onto runs up and down a scale and finally the trill tapping Billy Sheehan uses in the song “Addicted To That Rush” (Mr Big).
Key For Sheet Music/Tab Techniques
T = Tap
Ho = Hammer On
Po = Pull Off
Sl = Slide

But now with this lesson you put me in a new direction and I can start to experiment from the beginig with tapping.
Looks easy and with clear basic explanations like that I feel that I can star to walk.
Thanks a lot Mark I love your way of teaching !
Great lesson on Tapping I will have to watch this lesson a bunch of times to get it down…never had to tap…but I like the technique..you are absolutely on point about practicing this stuff slowly…very slowly lol…Thanks Mark..

Thank you very ,very, much.
I just love that bit when you’re trilling and talking at the same time as if to say “see? there’s nothing to it.”
Awsome….mark you are the best teacher i ever had…you put things in my head with the right way..thank..x
Talking about some shredding right there. Just put some distortion on, find a guitar player and you can both go to town.

Awesome! I appreciate your effort sir.
Awesome lesson! You explain this all so well. You break it down so it seems actually “not so intimidating” and I have to say, I am impressed that you can play these licks so fast and yet talk so smoothly all the way through as you explain what you’re doing. Very helpful lesson!
