Last week saw the passing of a guitar legend in the shape of Eddie Van Halen. After Eddie’s passing I decided to try out one of his most famous solos on bass : the intro to Mean Street from the Fair Warning album.

Mean Street Intro (Arranged For Bass Guitar)

The Mean Street Intro is played pretty much on the bottom 4 strings of the guitar but for a couple of notes and I’ve also seen Billy Sheehan play the line once upon a time on one of his live solos.

So to commemorate the life of Eddie Van Halen, just for a little fun, let’s look at the mean streets intro and some of the techniques you’re gonna need to pull it off. We’re going to be looking at Tapped Harmonics, Tapping, Slapping and pinched harmonics.

So get ready for some cool techniques you can apply to bass.
